In the garden of thy heart plant naught but the rose of love...

If you have eight or more loops in your fingerprint chart you are in the School of Love. That means part of your Soul Agenda is to:

Loop Fingerprint

Explore the meaning of and develop the skills necessary to create and maintain authentic, loving relationships with yourself and others vs. alienation, disconnection or codependency. Those in the School of Love also need to discern when to be open and vulnerable and when to keep their boundaries strong.

Is there anything more human than the desire to love and be loved in return? Many of our culture’s most brilliant achievements in music, art, dance and literature are love stories. We all long for genuine emotional connection; to be seen, known, and cared for. Yet, how can something so primal, so vital to our well being; something that can be so joyful also be so incredibly complicated?

Statistically, the School of Love is the most common Life School - loops are the most common fingerprint type, approximately 70 – 80% of all fingerprints are loops. Yet, it is also the Life School with the “greatest degree of misunderstanding”.

Just as those in the School of Service must experience all parts of themselves that are not aligned with heartfelt Service, School of Love trainees must come face to face with parts of themselves that are not aligned with authentic emotional connection.

A tricky aspect of this school is to define what authentic relationship looks and feels like in the myriad  kinds of relationships everyone experiences. For example, what might an authentic relation look like with:

  • The Divine/Creator/Spirit
  • A Spouse
  • A Parent or Sibling
  • Your Children
  • A Teacher or Professor
  • Yourself
  • A Lover
  • A Friend,  Acquaintance
  • A Co-Worker
  • Your Boss

As you can see relationship possibilities are endless. Plus relationships can and often do change over time.

A foundational task for those in the School of Love is to know, love and accept yourself, an assignment also  given to us by various spiritual teachers. I love this quote by Thich Nhat Hanh:

In Buddhism, the word “suchness" is used to mean “the essence or particular characteristics of a thing or person, its true nature. Each person has his or her suchness…"

For  School of Love trainees,  your “suchness” is revealed by being in touch with your  feelings and through your relationships.

Richard Unger explains that the School of Love is so challenging because:

At the core of the School of Love is the fear that I am not essentially lovable

Take a moment to ponder on what that statement means, and more importantly how it makes you feel. Creating healthy emotional connections are critical to our health, happiness. In the past, being cast out of the tribe often meant physical death. Being emotionally or psychologically cast out of the tribe is incredibly painful. Who among us hasn’t felt alone or invisible? How often do we hide behind a persona so we will be accepted? Who have we pushed away before they pushed us away?

Important School of Love Questions:

I always share the following questions for my clients in the School of Love:

  • What am I Feeling?
  • Who do I Need to Tell?
  • When Do I Tell Them?

Too Much..

  • Feeling Ungrounded
  • Spouting Feelings
  • Poor Emotional Boundaries
  • Over Accommodating
  • Too Vulnerable

Too Little

  • Stoic, Never Shows Feelings
  • Isolated, Withdrawn
  • Under Accommodating
  • Emotional Numbness
  • Never Vulnerable

Just Right!

  • Ability to Identify, Express and Release All Feelings
  • Able to Foster Closeness, Understanding, and Emotional Connection
  • Able to Maintain Authentic Relationships

Musings About Love

I'd like to end with a beautiful quote that express so many facets of Love!

Love is the breath of the Holy Spirit inspired into the human spirit!...the necessary tie proceeding from the realities of things through divine creation! Love is the means of the most great happiness in both the material and spiritual worlds!...

Love is a bond between the Creator and the creature in the inner world!... the greatest law in this vast universe of God! Love is the one law which causeth and controlleth order among the existing atoms!

Love is the universal magnetic power between the planets and stars shining in the lofty firmament...the cause of unfoldment to a searching mind, of the secrets deposited in the universe by the Infinite! Love is the spirit of life in the bountiful body of the world!

Love is the cause of the civilization of nations in this mortal world! Love is the highest honor to every righteous nation!                                                       Tablets of Abdu'l-Baha v3, p. 525
